An Italian Island Summer by Sue Moorcroft #Review
Here we are with a fabulous Summer read by Sue Moorcroft. An Italian Island Summer was published by Avon on May 25th.
Will one summer in Sicily change her life for ever?
After her marriage falls apart, Ursula Quinn is offered the
chance to spend the summer working at a hotel on a beautiful island off the
coast of Sicily, Italy. Excited by a new adventure, she sets off at once.
At Residenza dei Tringali, Ursula receives a warm welcome
from everyone except Alfio, son of the Tringali family. He gave up his life in
Barcelona to help his mother Agata with the ailing business, and is frustrated
with Ursula’s interference – and she in turn is less than impressed with his
attitude. As they spend more time together, though, they begin to see each
other in a different light.
But what with Ursula’s ex-husband on her tail, family secrets surfacing and an unexpected offer that makes Alfio question his whole life, there’s plenty to distract them from one another. Can she face her past and he his future, and together make the most of their Sicilian summer?
My Thoughts
I loved the setting of this ;atest romance by Sue Moorcroft. Sicily shimmered in the sunshine and the offshore island stood apart as a distinctive place, full of beautiful scenery and delicious food. Ursula is aconvincing central figure. In many ways, her Irish heritage mirrors that of the Sicilians with a huge emphasis on family and friendships. Ursula's marriage has left her with a profound distrust of men and their morives and a traumatic event has left her suspicious and protective of herself. She is such an individual but has struggled to be regarded as strong by her family,
Alfio stands in contrast to Ursula's ex-husband. He is loyal to his family and puts their interests before his own. As he proves to be a sympathetic character, you find yourself rooting for him and hoping that he will realise what is before his eyes, in Ursula. This is a well paced story which looks for the positive in most people and shows you both sides of a situation. It was great to meet up with Zia and to find out how her life has been moving forward. In short: Sicily sparkles in the sunshine
