Making Memories at the Cornish Cove by Kim Nash #Review

We are back with the Cornish Cove series with Kim Nash's Making Memories at the Cornish Cove . It was published by Boldwood Books on April 17th. You can read my review of  Hopeful Hearts at the Cornish Cove here and Finding Family at the Cornish Cove   here .    It’s never too late… After five husbands and five broken hearts, Lydia feels like she’s always been chasing something. But now she’s found her purpose, and having moved to Driftwood Bay to spend more time with her daughter Meredith, she’s happier than ever. But there’s still life in these old bones yet! With her newfound sense of identity, she’s keen to re-explore the things that made her happy as a younger person. Lydia’s passion was dancing – she used to compete in her younger years, and there’s no place she’s more at home than on the dancefloor. London Noir by Ann Girdharry ** Review**

It's been quite nice to take a break from all the Christmas books and romances that I have been reading and take a look at some suspense in London Noir

Memory loss, nightmares, the urge to kill – Sophie has it all.
Is it really Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? Or something more sinister? Kal is about to find out…

After a near-fatal road accident, Kal helps Sophie, a young girl in trouble.

The girl’s friends are being murdered one by one. Why? And who by?
Kal must kick start herself out of her downward spiral to save the young stranger.
But Kal is in the grip of the London Cartel, and is someone after the girl, or is the girl after someone?

My Thoughts

I was hooked into London Noir from the beginning and the fast paced story carried me along. At times, London Noir pulsates with tension as the plot twists and turns. The most interesting aspect was the psychological insight which Ann Girdharry brings to the characters. I found it fascinating and loved the fact that Kal's thought processes were so explicitly shared as she decides which body language she needs to adopt.

In Kal, we have someone who has her own issues to work through. I haven't read the first in this series, Good Girl, Bad Girl and I think that I would have understood the dynamic between Kal and Marty quicker if I had. However, as a standalone, this novel certainly delivers.

I did find some of the details a little too gruesome for me but they certainly added to the horror at the situations which were being described. The excerpts which feature the killer's thoughts are the most terrifying part of the book and leave you in no doubt as to the danger which is all about. There are plenty of red herrings to distract you from what is at the bottom of Sophie's situation, but the realisation of what is going on does gradually dawn.

In short: a psychological thriller which has you on the edge of your seat to the end.
