 My Thoughts

Lady Wilhelmina, known as Mina, is an intriguing character with a past. Having fled England some years before, she finds herself on a prestigious liner, steaming towards her mother country against her better wishes. Her skills at knowing how to behave in polite society have prompted her employment to mentor a talented but naive singer who it is hoped, will take society by storm.  When Mina meets up again with Max, Mina feels her control of her destiny to be under threat as past secrets are just below the surface.

    I enjoyed getting to know Mina who has an independent streak and the ability to survive on her own. A helpless female  she certainly is not! When the reason for her broken engagement and abandonment of her country becomes known, you realise that she has tried to protect feelings and take some of the blame on herself. Max has also tried to bury his feelings and concentrated on keeping up appearances but in the end, you sense his sincerity and kindness. 

In short: second chances

Lara Temple is an award-winning author of strong and sexy historical romance. She lives in London with her husband, two children, and one very fluffy dog, and they are all very understanding about her disappearing into her little office where she looks out over the garden as she dreams up her Happy Ever Afters.
