The Little Porto Book Club by Rebecca Raisin #Review

Welcome to a summery read set in Porto by Rebecca Raisin . The Little Porto Book Club  was published by HQ Digital on August 13th.   In a city full of stories, can she write her own… Introvert and self-described whodunnit enthusiast Viviane has never much believed in living life outside of the pages of a book. But when her interfering mother insists that Viviane needs some friends who aren’t fictional, she decides to head into the beautiful bustling streets of Porto in search of her community. What better place to start than by reading her favourite mystery in the corner of a little-known café? But when one, then two, and then outrageously six other people decide to join her silent book club Viviane realises that she is firmly out of her depth. There’s Thomas, a middle-aged man hiding his love for romance novels, Lucinda, a chic sixty-something with a penchant for Christie, and then there’s Tiago, the man of every romance novelist’s dreams. But when one of ...

Tomorrow Starts Today by Jessica Redland #Review #EscapeToTheLakesBook5 #PublicationDay

Jessica Redland's series, The Escape to the Lakes, continues with Tomorrow Starts Today. It is published by Boldwood Books today on 8th January15th May.

It's never too late to find yourself... 💫

When she unexpectedly loses her husband, Yvonne Kellerman's world turns quiet and grey. Five years on, her days are filled with the gentle chatter of her loyal parrot, Trevor, and the comfort of her crafting table—but she can’t shake the feeling that life is slipping her by and Yvonne feels lost and lonelier than ever.

When she joins the local crafting club at Willowdale Village Hall, Yvonne expects nothing more than a few afternoons of sewing. Instead, amongst the other local crafters, she discovers friendship, laughter and a renewed appreciation for her gorgeous Lake District home. It’s a reminder that she isn’t alone and, with each new stitch, her confidence returns, and so does her belief that it's never too late for fresh starts and new beginnings.

When a familiar face from her past reappears, Yvonne finds herself standing at a crossroads: will she protect her heart, or embrace the chance to love—and truly live—again?

 My Thoughts

Yvonne is the latest character to star in Jessica Redland's series, Escape to the Lakes. She is at a crossroads in her life, following the loss of her husband. It is clear that she is feeling lonely as more of her neighbours move away and she is looking for a new start in her life. It is quite believable that she should seek friends through her interest in crafting and she makes some interesting and quirky friends. This leads to an exciting development for the crafters and one which leads Yvonne to reconnect with someone from her past.

The setting for the story is as gorgeous as ever and you absolutely find the community in the villages credible. There is some humour, especially through Yvonne's parrot companion who she shares her  home with. With second chances and fresh starts, this is a lovely book to start a new year with.

In short: Starting over
