Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble #Review #HomeFrontNurses

It is now 1943 and we follow the lives of the Home Front Nurses as they cope with the effects of the Second World War. Shared Secrets for the Home Front Nurses by Rachel Brimble is published on February 13th by Boldwood Books .     ‘Come on, Kathy… tell me a secret.’ 1943: Becoming a Home Front nurse, meant Kathy Scott was finally able to escape the violence of her childhood. At long last, her life has taken a turn for the better. Particularly because, for the very first time, she’s made some wonderful friends–fellow nurses Sylvia, Freda and Veronica. Kathy’s known for not being short of a word or two. So nobody’s more surprised than her when she finds herself tongue-tied around Freda’s handsome brother, James – who’s home from war with an unexplained injury.   My Thoughts   The story of the Home Front Nurses continues into 1943 and Freda's ambition to nurse abroad gets ever closer. Her brother ,James, returns from the war having had a traumatic experi...

Snowflakes Over Primrose Woods by Jill Steeples #Review

Having loved Starting Over at Primrose Woods, I was delighted to be invited to the celebrations for the second in the series, Snowflakes Over Primrose Woods by Jill Steeples. It was published on October 4th by Boldwood Books.

Winter has arrived in Primrose Woods bringing with it new loves, new adventures and warm hugs on cold days.

Abbey Carter, her boyfriend Sam and their trusty canine companion Lady, relish living in the picturesque village of Wishwell at the edge of their beloved Primrose Woods.  The woods and the country park are full of activity as the festive season approaches.

Lizzie Baker is flat out at the Treetops café, serving all sorts of winter warmers, festive goodies and lashings of hot chocolate. And when her daughter and grandchildren arrive to stay, the run up to Christmas is set to be even more magical than she had expected.

Rhianna West has finally found the perfect man to fall in love with – if only Luke wasn’t moving away in the New Year.

As the snow falls on Primrose Woods, and the village of Wishwell sparkles with Christmas lights, could this be the year that every wish comes true for the three friends?

 My Thoughts

The same feeling of family and community continues in this second in the series and I really enjoyed the multi-generation aspect. There are several story strands. Lizzie and her family are looking to reunite around the festive time. Rhianna has worked out just who she would like to get closer to. Central to the story, we have Abbey and Sam whose relationship is moving on apace, although there one or two stumbles along the way.

This is a lovely setting with so many festive touches. Primrose Woods is a haven for nature so there is plenty of Christmas trees and festive greenery on show. As different story threads are woven together, you get a feel for the warm and inclusive relationships within the village. It is a lovely read for Christmas, such a comfort on a winter’s day. There is a real feeling of optimism, as different couples decide their futures.

In short: a warm, feelfood festive read
