Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. Rendez-vous in Cannes by Jennifer Bohnet #Review

I am delighted to join in the celebrations for the paperback publication of Rendez-Vous in Cannes on April 7th by Boldwood Books.

Behind the parties and the champagne at the glitzy, glamorous Cannes Film Festival, two very different women are starring in their own real-life dramas.

Will Anna, newly in love with Leo, be able to reconcile her present-day happiness with the unhappy past that had its beginnings at a long-ago film festival?

And what about Daisy, who is coming to terms with being single? Here at the festival she has reached a fork in the road - which way will she turn?

Throw in an unhappy mother, an ex-lover and an illegitimate child, and the two women could be living the script of the next Cannes blockbuster. One thing's for sure - by the end of the film festival both their lives will have changed forever.

My Thoughts

It was a pleasure to travel to Cannes for this novel, where the atmosphere around the Film Festival is so beautifully evoked. Full of colour and the sights and sounds of the Cote dAzur, you are always aware of the setting and why everyone is there. The two storylines of Anna and Daisy sit well together and as their lives intertwine, it never feels contrived.

For a time, both Anna and Daisy are keeping their counsel on events from their past from the men in their lives. However, as they both find out, telling the truth and being frank is the way to go. There are also some lively characters who we get to meet, especially the children who are full of happiness and enjoying every minute. Family and feeling you belong are central to the storylines and in all, this turned out to be a delightful Summery read.

In short: French glamour in spades.
