Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. My Greek Island Summer by Mandy Baggot #Review #MandyBaggot20

It is very special to be taking part in the celebrations for Mandy Baggot's 20th novel. My Greek Island Summer was published by Aria on 2nd April.

Two weeks. One unforgettable trip to Corfu. A chance to change her life.

Becky Rose has just landed her dream job house-sitting at a top-end villa on the island of Corfu. What could be better than two weeks laying by an infinity pool overlooking the gorgeous Ionian waters while mending her broken heart.

Elias Mardas is travelling back to Corfu on business whilst dealing with his own personal demons. Late arriving in Athens, Becky and Elias have to spend a night in the Greek capital. When they have to emergency land in Kefalonia, Becky's got to decide whether to suck up the adventure and this gorgeous companion she seems to have been thrown together with or panic about when she's going to arrive at Corfu...

Finally reaching the beautiful island, Becky is happy to put Elias behind her and get on with her adventure. Until he turns up at the villa...

My Thoughts

This is a real breath of Summer and such an enjoyable read. Of course, there are lots of coincidences which seem to bring people together but I was delighted with the range of characters who all had their own stories to tell. Greece shimmers away centre stage and it is lovely to visit Athens and Kefalonia en route to Corfu. It is packed with the sights and smells of the island and life in the sleepy Greek villages make you want to be there.

The humour runs through the story. As a reluctant flier, I particularly appreciated the plane journeys which Becky has to endure to get to the sun! Becky, Elias, Petra and Megan all find themselves having to face events from their past which have held them back. Communication and listening to each other are some good lessons to take on board. Family and friendships are all part of the fun and the warmth of the story is a tonic in these dark days.

In short: Fun in the sun
