The Wartime Book Club by Kate Thompson #Review

The Wartime Book Club is a marvellous historical novel set on Jersey in World War Two. Written by Kate Thompson , it was published by Hodder $ Stoughton on February 13th. Jersey, 1943. Once a warm and neighbourly community, now German soldiers patrol the cobbled streets, imposing a harsh rule on the people of the island. Grace La Mottée, the island's only librarian, is ordered to destroy books which threaten the new regime. Instead, she hides the stories away in secret. Along with her headstrong best friend, postwoman Bea Rose, she wants to fight back. So she forms the wartime book club: a lifeline, offering fearful islanders the joy and escapism of reading. But as the occupation drags on, the women's quiet acts of bravery become more perilous - and more important - than ever before. And, when tensions turn to violence, they are forced to face the true, terrible cost of resistance . . . Based on astonishing real events, The Wartime Book Club is a love letter

The Silver Bells Christmas Pantomime by Lynsey James *Blog Tour* *Giveaway*

Christmas comes early to Books, Life and Everything!

I am delighted to be part of the Blog Tour for Lynsey James' next book, The Silver Bells Christmas Pantomime. Published in e-book form on November 10th 2016, by Carina, it is available from Amazon.

I’m also excited to be able to offer UK only readers the chance to win a £25 theatre voucher with the ATG theatre group.  You can enter the giveaway at the bottom of this blog post.

This Christmas pantomime is about to be the talk of the town! Luna Bay’s festive preparations are well under way and the much anticipated annual pantomime is to be, once again, the highlight of the season. Too bad that the village’s very own actress and darling of Broadway, Alice Woods, isn’t feeling in the mood for Christmas.

Until the pantomime comes under threat and a grief-stricken Alice is forced to push her personal pain aside and step up to direct – after all, the show must go on..

So with (more than) a little help from her new found friends, not to mention one very gorgeous Hollywood A-list celebrity, the play begins to come together, but will Alice finally believe that Christmas is a time for miracles after all?

The Silver Bells Christmas Pantomime is a lovely seasonal romance, just right for when you fancy a quick read to get you in the mood for Christmas. This is the third in the Luna Bay series but it can be read as a standalone, as I did. It has all the ingredients you'd expect- cozy settings and wintry nights but there is more to the book than that. There is the humour to be found in the characters, especially in the cast and director of the pantomime itself. Then there is Alice as she tries to come to terms with a tragedy in her past. A winter cocktail of hilarious one liners and poignant emotion, I flew through the pages of the book.

In short: Starting again and second chances wrapped up in a Christmas glow.

Thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for a copy of the book and to Jenny from Jenny in Neverland for a place on the Blog Tour

                                                           About the Author:

Lynsey James was born in Fife in 1991 and has been telling people how to spell her name ever since. She's an incurable bookworm who loves nothing more than getting lost in a good story with memorable characters. She started writing when she was really young and credits her lovely Grandad- and possibly a bump on the head from a Mr Frosty machine- with her love of telling stories. She used to write her own episodes of Friends and act them out in front of her family (in fact she's sure she put Ross and Rachel together first!)

A careers adviser at school once told Lynsey writing wasn’t a “good option” and for a few years, she believed her. She tried a little bit of everything, including make-up artistry, teaching and doing admin for a chocolate fountain company. The free chocolate was brilliant. When Lynsey left her job a couple of years ago, she started writing full-time while she looked for another one. As soon as she started working on her story, Lynsey fell in love and decided to finally pursue her dream. She haven’t looked back since.

When Lynsey's not writing, eating cake or drinking tea, she's daydreaming about the day Dylan O’Brien FINALLY realises they're meant to be together. It’ll happen one day…
