Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. One Midnight With You by Shari Low #Review

One Midnight With You
by Shari Low was published by Boldwood Books on August 26th and lives up to her usual standard.

What would you do if you had just twenty-four hours to change your life?

Ailish Ryan has been in hiding since her husband’s affair ended their marriage. But when a friend forces her to face her new reality, will she choose to revisit the past or embrace a brand new future?

Ailish’s daughter, Emmy, thought her boyfriend was nothing like her cheating father, but now she’s not so sure. As the hours pass, she turns detective to find out if she picked the right man, or if history is repeating itself.

Grandmother, Minnie Ryan is on a mission to deliver a very special gift to a lifelong friend. But will grit and a touch of divine intervention be enough to overcome the obstacles that fate is putting in her way?

Dario Moretti has spent his whole life working in the family business, but now it’s in trouble and he’s all out of options. Will he have the strength to let it go, even if it means hurting the people he loves?

The clock is ticking… but will twenty-four hours be long enough to heal four broken hearts?

 My Thoughts

Set in Scotland on the last day of the year, Hogmanay, we meet so many characters whose lives intertwine. It takes a bit of working sorting out as to who is who, but once you have sorted out how everyone is connected, you soon get in the swing. You follow the lives of Ailish, her daughter Emmy, Minnie and Dario who all have their own stories. However, there are many others who form part of their stories and who are established in their own right.

All the characters have a link to Dario's restaurant and are drawn there during the evening. The plotting in this story is very impressive and I can confidently recommend it as an enjoyable and at times, surprising read. Minnie has the most touching story for me. There is so much action fitted into the last few hours before midnight and all the time, the clock ticks down for Dario and his family.

In short: a host of characters meet to bring in the New Year
