Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. Five Days by Zoe Folbigg #Review

New from the NUMBER ONE bestselling author of The Note. A must-read uplifting romance for fans of When Harry Met Sally and One Day!

When Jesse Lightning meets Minnie Byrne, he is having a bad day.

Reeling from the effects of a very bruised heart, the last thing Jesse wants is a new friend. But Minnie is hard to say no to, and reluctantly Jesse realises that her impetuous playfulness might do him good.

So when Minnie suggests they go on fortnightly platonic dates with no strings, no promises, no expectations beyond good company, Jesse agrees before he has a chance to think too deeply about it.

Two friends.

Five days.

No chance of another broken heart.

Until Jesse reveals a secret that proves Minnie’s heart isn’t as safe as she thought. Thank goodness five days isn’t enough time to fall in love…

Once you meet Jesse and Minnie you’ll never forget them. This is bestseller Zoë Folbigg at her absolute best with a story of friendship, love and taking chances. Perfect for fans of Cathy Kelly, Mike Gayle, JoJo Moyes and David Nicholls.

My Thoughts

This is one of those romances that carries you with, through all the plot twists and surprises. You feel invested in the characters' stories. Minnie is a vulnerable but caring young woman whose trust issues have led her to be extremely wary of everybody. She has quite a rich back story which you glimpse as the story develops but the focus is always on Minnie and her hopes and dreams. Jesse proves to have as complicated past life of his own. Neither of them are ready for any new commitments so they start on a series of meetings, vowing to stay as friends. Of course, with the undeniable chemistry, that proves to be difficult.

Both characters have to make sacrifices for people they love. Their creative careers are at times all consuming. You gradually pick up on the similarities in their outlook and upbringing. What you never do is doubt their sincerity. This is a great read which I thoroughly enjoyed. You certainly get to see them at their most vulnerable but also hope that they can edge forward towards taking a leap of faith.

In short: learning to trust and starting over
