Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Fly Me To Paris by Helga Jensen #Review

Helga Jensen's latest novel, Fly me to Paris. was published on May 18th by Hera Books.

Penny is not living her best life.

Her job is far from thrilling and her long-term boyfriend shows no sign of wanting to commit.

She has just turned fifty and is going nowhere.

Wanting a new start, Penny applies for a job as cabin crew, to find out if she can push herself out of her comfort zone.

Her new job brings the adventure she craves, even if she does keep bumping into impossibly handsome but deeply annoying pilot, Matt Garcia.

Stuck in Paris on an unscheduled stopover, the chemistry between them grows. But the path of love never did fly smooth, as Matt’s past threatens to come between them.

Beside which, Penny is not looking for love. But what if love finds her?

A romantic, uplifting and inspirational read all about taking chances later in life – fans of Milly Johnson and Sandy Barker will love this!

 My Thoughts

I enjoyed the tone of this story with its uplifting message and flashes of humour. Penny is a relatable character who finds herself way out of her comfort zone. Her reactions when she starts again with her new career are so human and her vulnerabilities are obvious. Penny wears her heart on her sleeve and people seem to respond to her friendly manner. You will her to have courage and to take a risk.

This is an enjoyable piece of escapism and I appreciated the parts of the story when Penny was working over in Paris. You see the city through her excited eyes. There is a strong romantic seam running through the story but as you discover, Matt has plenty of baggage in his past which looks as though it will come between them. Penny's colleagues are a varied bunch and there are plenty of opportunities for humour as they work on the planes. The training sessions also made me smile. This is a great holiday read with an emphasis on travel and I did appreciate all the doggy friends who make an appearance.

In short: French flings and flying fun
