Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. Sadie's Spring Surprise by Debbie Viggiano #Review

Here's a new romcom from Debbie Viggiano.  Sadie's Spring Surprise which was published on March 1st by Unicorn Publishing.

When Sadie Harding’s posh wedding to Felix Barrington-Jones is abruptly cancelled, she’s devastated.  While tears are to be expected, surely taking to her bed for a prolonged period is a little OTT?  But that’s because Sadie has a secret about what really happened prior to everything being called off.  And the guilt is unbearable.

Three years later Sadie has a new guy in her life, but this chap has four legs, not two.  William Beagle is a rescue dog that suits her perfectly.  He parps like a man, snores like a man, and loves her unconditionally.  But what she hadn’t reckoned upon was an unexpected dispute of ownership with the gorgeous but grumpy Jack Farrell.

Jack has his own problems. Namely blackmail. The last thing Sadie ever anticipated was being unwittingly implicated.  When a peaceful walk turns into a police investigation and William Beagle’s mugshot is splashed across the papers, she’s badly triggered.  Can Sadie finally confront the demons of the past in order to face the future?

Sparks are set to fly in this gorgeous romantic comedy about love, trust, and new beginnings.

 My Thoughts

Although this is a romcom with a strong element of romance, I found the theme of friendship to be as strong in many ways. Sadie has a troubled past where boyfriends are concerned, and she has come to rely on her best friend, Charlotte, who talks through many a personal crisis. She is also a good source of humour. Family also looms large and as you find out, Sadie's relationship with her sister, Flora, is problematical and certainly, complicated.

I loved the parts played by all the animals in the story and they all had their own personalities. Sadie's friendship with Jack gets off to a difficult start and there are definitely some surprises along the way. You find out through flashbacks why Sadie cannot trust easily and what happened in her engagement to Felix. She is a lovely central character, full of warmth and humour. This is an uplifting romcom with plenty of laughs and some touching moments.

In short: a fun and entertaining read

About the Author

Prior to turning her attention to writing, Debbie Viggiano was, for more years than she cares to remember, a legal secretary. She lives with her Italian husband, a rescued pooch from Crete, and a very disgruntled cat. Occasionally her adult children return home bringing her much joy... apart from when they want to raid the fridge or eat her secret stash of chocolate.
