Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. No Room at the Little Cornish Inn by Nancy Barone #Review #LittleCornishInn

With December, we are fully in the swing with festive novels and here's another one! No Room at the Little Cornish Inn was published at 5th November by Aria

Rosie Andersonwas hoping to whisk her young son Danny away for a lovely Christmas with family, far from the hustle and bustle of her life in London. But then her boss at the head office –aka Susan the Sacker –suddenly assigns her to go in incognito and save a tiny inn in Cornwall from being closed permanently. Rosie doesn't know why The Old Bell Inn is performing so badly but it's on her to sort it out!

Hours in the car later, Rosie arrives at the inn to find she's been double booked –there are no rooms left. And she isn't there for more than a minute before she's butting heads with the manager, Irishman Mitchell Fitzpatrick. He seems to dislike her on sight, so it's confusing that he seems to get on so well with Danny... But if he's as terrible as his reputation, Rosie will have to be the one to fire him.

This really isn't the Christmas Rosie was dreaming of. But maybe, just maybe, it could be a whole lot more...

A sweet and uplifting Christmas romance, No Room at the Little Cornish Inn is perfect for fans of Philippa Ashley, Holly Martin and Jenny Hale.

My Thoughts

This is a lovely, gentle, festive read which involved quite a lot of simmering romance, a mystery to be solved and some likeable characters.  Rosie is a single parent who is sent to the Cornish Inn to discover why there have been complaints and instructed to sack the manager, if appropriate. Her bullying Head of HR is a thoroughly unpleasant bully but you soon discover that Rosie has a mind of her own and a sense of fairness towards others.

The whole village comes over as a gorgeous community and gossip seems to spread through it like wildfire. You can absolutely visualise the beautiful coastal setting and understand the pull Rosie and her son feel towards the place. Christmas celebrations, it seems,  cannot be denied even if Mitchell would rather ignore it. With lots of friends and family values on show, this is an enjoyable, festive read.

Home is where the heart is.
