Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. The Perfect Fit By Mary Jayne Baker #Review #Giveaway

The festive reading season continues with today's novel, The Perfect Fit by Mary Jane Baker. It is the second book in her Love in the Dales series and there is the chance to win signed copies of both books today. Details on how to enter are at the foot of this post.

Escape to the frost-sparkling Yorkshire Dales for some festive fun under the mistletoe! A saucy comedy-romance with more than a sprinkle of Christmas spice – this will lift your spirits and your excitement level!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas for costume shop owner Becky Finn. Leaving London to move back home to the twinkly rural village of Egglethwaite, she plans to build a new life for herself with fiancé, Cole.

Keen to raise funds for the struggling village hall she loved as a child, Becky finds herself at the head of a colourful group aiming to revive the Egglethwaite Christmas pantomime. But when that festive feeling sets in, she discovers there's more to panto than innuendo and slapped thighs.

Falling in love was not in the script! But as opening night grows closer, she starts to wonder if the panto will ever make it to the stage and, with handsome co-star Marcus on the scene, if she has chosen her right leading man...

The perfect stocking-filler gift!

'A wonderful book with a great story and a sparky, unusual voice. I loved it!' KATIE FFORDE

My Thoughts

I read this as a standalone and didn't feel that I was missing out by not having read the first. The community of Egglethwaite is brought together to stage a village pantomime which is a great source of humour. Through the 'amdram' shenanigans, there are some genuinely funny moments and you learn quite a bit about the characters. They can all see what Becky doesn't as regards her relationship with Cole and I must say at times, she was infuriatingly unaware of what was right in front of her nose!

In addition to the romance at the centre, you also get to learn more about different couples and their solutions to childlessness. Adoption is centre stage at one pint as you get to follow a couple through the process. This did give the characters added depth and lives outside the pantomime setting. I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining romance. It captures the 'nudge nudge wink wink' world of the village panto and together with the eccentricities of the villagers, it is full of heart.

In short:  An entertaining romcom- 'Oh no it isn't...Oh yes it is...!'
