Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. No Place Like Home by Maxine Morrey #Review #Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the tour today to celebrate Maxine Morrey's No Place Like Home. There is also a great Giveaway for you to enter. Details on how to do this are at the bottom of this post.

Two hearts. One home?

Eleanor Laing has a very good reason to want to stay single: her last relationship put her in danger. And she’s worried that while the physical scars will heal, the emotional ones never can. So, travelling to Kansas for her best friend Sandy’s wedding, Eleanor’s in need of some time alone. And Sandy’s brother Ben’s rural and idyllic ranch seems like the perfect place for it.

Ben comes with his own baggage – a failed marriage in his past, and a big question mark over his future – and he knows the feelings he had for Eleanor belong firmly in the history books. But, sitting on his porch with her, he’s never felt more at home.

Both of them swore they were better off alone… yet is it possible that two broken hearts could come together to heal?

                                                                                     My Thoughts

This is the book to escape into and proved to be a lovely weekend read. The characters are all likeable and credible, especially Eleanor and Ben. It is very much a 'will they, won't they? ' sort of a story as most of the other characters can see their mutual attraction.

Although it is essentially a romance, there are some harsh issues hiding in the background. Domestic violence is a tricky subject to include, but the author incorporates it in such a way to add depth to her characters. The stunning setting makes you wish you were there and it is how people react towards the environment which gives you a hint about their character. This is a great examination of people who are learning to take a second chance and to take a risk after deep hurts. Set over a few years, you see the best and worse of human behaviour.

In short:  Learning to love again.

                                                                              About the Author

Maxine has wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember and wrote her first (very short) book for school when she was ten.

As time went by, she continued to write, but 'normal' work often got in the way. She has written articles on a variety of subjects, as well as a local history book on Brighton. However, novels are her first love.

In August 2015, she won Harper Collins/Carina UK's 'Write Christmas' competition with her first romantic comedy, 'Winter's Fairytale'.

Maxine lives on the south coast of England, and when not wrangling with words loves to read, sew and listen to podcasts. Being a fan of tea and cake, she can (should!) also be found doing something vaguely physical at the gym.
