Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. Five Ladies Go Skiing by Karen Aldous ** Blog Tour Review and Giveaway **

A delightful new novel of love and friendship from Karen Aldous…

Ginny is alone now after losing her husband, so her friends (her F.L.O.W.E.R.S) decide with his first memorial imminent, learning to ski in the Swiss Alps would be a great distraction for her. What Ginny’s friends fail to add into the equation however, is their own distractions! The baggage they carry with them not only threatens their skiing but scales mountainous emotions throughout the trip. The questions then are…can their friendships survive, and can Ginny ever trust enough to love again?

My Thoughts

This is a story full of friendship and emotional highlights as one of the party, Ginny, tries to come to terms with losing her husband the previous year. Each of the five friends have their own back stories and personality but together, they form a united group. At the beginning, you get to meet each of them and see what is going on in their own lives. Then, the story is told primarily through the eyes of three of the group, so your interest never flags: Ginny, Kim and Cathy. Each of the friends has something to offer the group and their own issues.

All the women are all at an interesting stage of their lives as they approach their sixties. It is great to read a story which is full of their friendship, understanding and hope for the future. I particularly enjoyed seeing the ladies through each other's eyes. With fabulous scenery, there are some lovely, sparkling festive touches. It is an entertaining read, just right for the holiday period.

In short: Five fabulous ladies and a wonderful festive setting.

About the Author

Karen Aldous enjoys village life on the edge of the north-downs in Kent with easy access to the buzz of London. Not only does she love the passive pleasures of reading and writing, she also craves the more active pursuits with her family and friends such as walking, cycling and skiing especially when they involve food and wine!

Much of Karen's inspiration comes from her travels and meeting people. The UK, France, Greece, Switzerland, Italy and parts of the USA and Asia are just some you will experience in her books to date. However, wherever she goes, new characters emerge in 'Karen's World' screaming at her to tell their stories; past or present. She loves to write about strong independent women who can direct their own lives - but struggle to control them! And, of course there's always a gorgeous hunk or two!
