Where Did the Hills Go? by Lali Gupta Chatterjee ** Review**

Today I am featuring Where Did the Hills Go by Lali Gupta Chatterjee. This short novella was published on April 27th 2018 by Gatekeeper Press.

Edith, her family, and the world have to deal with the mystery of hills and buildings disappearing. What could be happening in this fictional setting? Is there a wandering black hole? Are they just earthquakes? Or did the universe wobble? Find out in Lali's new book.......

My Thoughts

If you are interested in the science behind our natural world, you will enjoy this novella. There is a mystery at its heart which forces the reader to consider certain ethical questions. You start to ponder what you would do if placed in these perplexing but frightening circumstances. For me, this aspect of the novella dominates and makes the read worthwhile.

The writing style is quite formal and the words feel to be deliberately placed by the author. Following Edith's reactions and train of thought adds to her character and enables you to see the human cost behind the mysterious phenomena.

In short: Science fact meets Science Fiction.

Check out these excerpts to give you a flavour of the story.

What caught her eye was a side headline, innocuously peeping out amidst the stock market, politics, showbiz, and crime. Intrigued as she was by the headline “Where did the hills go?” she had to move on as the signal turned green. But her thoughts remained captivated. How could hills disappear? That’s absurd……

………. The park was very pleasant. The dawning of spring had started a few days back. It thrust probing streaks of color and warmth that were welcome in the aftermath of days of dreary wintry mix.

….. It had not become any colder but shivers ran through both hiker and guide as, subdued and scared, they increased their pace back to base.

…….Suddenly, the world became intensely interested in the normally invisible muons flying around us.

…..Excited exchanges of thoughts and animated debates ensued amongst an anguished populace clinging to hope and fervent in their will to save the world
