Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Just the Beginning by Sarah Bennett #Ewview #HalfmoonQuay#PublicationDay

I have been eagerly awaiting this new series by Sarah Bennett. Just the Beginning is published today by Boldwood Books!

Everyone in Halfmoon Quay, the picture-perfect village clinging to the edge of the Cornish coast, knows Rick Penrose is the person to turn to for help.

Friendly and reliable, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous, he’ll do anything for anyone. When his teenage crush Anya moves back to the quay for a fresh start, he has the perfect solution. She needs a job and his great uncle needs help to run his hotel. It’s a win-win.

Following the death of her husband, Anya Stokes discovered everything about her life was a lie. Without her beautiful home and the luxuries she took for granted, Anya and her daughter, Freya, have no choice but to move in with her aunt and uncle in Halfmoon Quay.

As she begins to turn her life around, Anya realises the perfect man might have been right under her nose all the time. But there’s a fine line between helping and taking over and Rick doesn’t always know where it is. Then Anya discovers he’s been keeping things from her and it’s like the past is repeating itself…

Head to the glorious Cornish coast with bestseller Sarah Bennett for this unashamedly heartwarming and uplifting read. Perfect for all fans of Cathy Bramley, Katie Fforde and Phillipa Ashley.

 My Thoughts

This turned out to be a brilliant start to a new series, with lots of characters all waiting in the wings to tell their own stories. This opening story centres on Anya and her childhood friend Rick. Anya has had a tricky year and discovered that the life she believed was a perfect one with her husband turned out to be far from it. Feeling let down and betrayed, she has returned to Halfmoon Quay where she has a supportive and loving extended family who are all determined to help her get back to a stable life.

Rick is from the Penrose family who have lived in Halfmoon Quay for years. He is the middle of four brothers and has tried all his life to help others and to tru to fix things. He finds himself in an impossible situation and struggles on to try to sort it out. Central to the community, Rick offers all the stability and kindness which Anya is looking for. or so she thinks.

I loved this story and its idyllic coastal setting. It conjures up seaside holidays and beach escapes resulting in a warm hug of a read.

In short: an escapist read full of heart

About the Author

Sarah Bennett has been reading for as long as she can remember. Raised in a family of bookworms, her love affair with books of all genres has culminated in the ultimate Happy Ever After – getting to write her own stories to share with others.

Born and raised in a military family, she is happily married to her own Officer (who is sometimes even A Gentleman). Home is wherever he lays his hat, and life has taught them both that the best family is the one you create from friends as well as relatives.

When not reading or writing, Sarah is a devotee of afternoon naps and sailing the high seas, but only on vessels large enough to accommodate a casino and a choice of restaurants.
