Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. Fake it 'til you make it by Laura Carter #Review #PublicationDay

Happy Publication Day to Fake it 'til You Make It by Laura Carter. Another great romcom from Boldwood Books.

Can a fake date fix everything?

On a day Abbey thought would be the best of her life –her boyfriend is surely going to propose tonight, right? –it all falls apart: he tells her he’s met someone else. And then to make things worse, she loses her job.

In an act of reimagination, she splurges her wedding savings on renting an apartment in a building she’s always dreamed of living in and kits out her wardrobe to match.

But when her family invites her ex –a close family friend –plus a date(!!) to her parents’ vow renewal, Abbey realizes her façade won’t be enough. There’s nothing for it but to fake one more thing –a romance. And she knows exactly who to ask... her hot new neighbor...

A laugh-out-loud fake-dating rom com, with a chemistry you’ll be thinking about long after turning the last page. Perfect for fans of The Hating Game and Elena Armas

My Thoughts

If you enjoy a romcom, you will love this fake dating set up.  Abbey is a likeable central character who finds she has to start again, professionally and personally. She takes a chance and moves in to her dream apartment block, hoping that if she lives as she'd like to, it may all come true. By a twist of fate, the man upstairs, Ted, is also keeping his identity under wraps, wanting to avoid a few people and unwanted publicity. Of course the chemistry between them is palpable.

There are plenty of humorous moments in this light-hearted look at love. Friends and family add lots of life to the story and my favourite part was when Ted met Abbey's family. With misunderstandings and quite a bit of pretence, this makes for a lively read. You also get to see part of the story through Ted's eyes so this dual narrative adds variety.

In short: an entertaining read
