Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Snow Days with You by Leonie Mack #Review

{ love a Leonie Mack romance and this winter story just fits the bill! Snow Days With You  was published by Boldwood Books on October 20th.

When Luna Rowntree gets an unexpected and life-changing legacy from a man she’s never met, she’s determined to find out why – even if it is Christmas Day and her family are expecting her.

So, with only her mother’s ashes for company – it’s a long story, but Luna knows her mother would have wanted to come on the adventure too – Luna sets off in her trusty Astra to the skiing resort in Chamonix, where her mysterious benefactor had lived.

But her little car isn’t designed for driving through snow-covered mountains, and when she runs out of fuel heart-breakingly close to Chamonix, Luna is relieved to be saved by her very own knight-in-shining armour. Well, knight in mountain rescue uniform anyway.

Yannick is charmed and baffled by Luna’s mission, and before he knows it, he has agreed to help. But Yannick has his own secrets calling him from the mountains, and his own reasons to run away. As he helps Luna understand her past he realises he has to face his as well if he’s ever going to risk opening his heart to love.

 My Thoughts

This is quite an unusual plot, set in Chamonix, just right for a winter read. The mountains dominate the story and the elements are integral to the story. Luna is completely out of her comfort zone, travelling to Chamonix in search of a few answers from her past. She has not come to terms with the loss of her mother but finds that there is a lot she does not know about her past.

Yannick has issues of his own to come to terms with and is adapting to his new life as a divorced father. You sense his sensitive side and he obviously cares very much for his young daughter. There are some romantic moments in the story but both Luna and Yannick find it difficult to admit how they really feel. There are plenty of secondary characters to give the story colour and the mountain rescue team camaraderie adds some humour. Luna finds that she has a mystery to solve which takes her by surprise and which upturns her view of her self. In the end, courage and seizing the day seems to be the way to go.

In short: fortune favours the brave
