Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. However, Lily’s vision for a cosy, country Cotswolds hotel is the com...

Up Close and Personal by Kathryn Freeman #Review

I always look forward to a new Kathryn Freeman novel and this one does not disappoint. Up Close and Personal  was published on 12th June by One More Chapter.

British actor Zac Edwards is the latest heartthrob to hit the red carpets. Hot, talented and rich, he sends women wild…all except one.

Close protection officer Kat Parker hasn’t got time to play celebrity games.  She has one job: to protect Zac from the stalker that seems to be dogging his every move.

Zac might get her hot under her very starched collar, but Kat’s a professional – and sleeping with Zac is no way part of her remit…

My Thoughts

As with all the Kathryn Freeman books which I have read, this novel sizzles with chemistry and I always love how you get to look inside both the central characters' minds. You move from one to the other in a seamless fashion which adds to the story as you get to see both reactions. I totally bought into the story and enjoyed it immensely.

Kat is an interesting character who has her lonely, sad moments as well as her brave, sparky side. I liked how she loved her family above all else but had an independent streak and was unquestionably brave. Zac is not your stereotypical Hollywood lead actor. There is much more to him than that and I appreciated how his side of the story unfolded slowly. This is an enjoyable and entertaining read which keeps you engaged from the start.

In short: A bodyguard story with a twist.

About the Author

A former pharmacist, I’m now a medical writer who also writes romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero.
I’ve two sons and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), so any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes come in many disguises.
