Coming Home to Maple Lodge by Alison Sherlock #Review

I am delighted to feature the first in Alison Sherlock's new series set in the Corswolds. Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge was published by Boldwood Books on June 20th. A family and hotel in desperate need of help… Maple Tree Lodge has been the home of the Jackson family for over a century. But the hotel has never been a success and, following the sudden loss of his father, architect Ben Jackson soon discovers the hotel is close to financial ruin. Ben has to make some tough decisions if the hotel is to survive and his family are to keep a roof over their heads. With the hotel in urgent need of a renovation, Ben’s sister calls on the talents of her best friend, interior designer Lily Watson. Cash strapped Lily needs a successful project to prove to herself and her high-achieving parents that she can carve a successful career and Maple Tree Lodge sounds like just the place for Lily to showcase her talents. A Little Christmas Faith by Kathryn Freeman ** Blog Tour Review**

It's great to be on the Blog Tour to help to celebrate Kathryn Freeman's novel, A Little Christmas Faith.

Is it time to love Christmas again?

Faith Watkins loves Christmas, which is why she’s thrilled that her new hotel in the Lake District will be open in time for the festive season. And Faith has gone all out; huge Christmas tree, fairy lights, an entire family of decorative reindeer. Now all she needs are the guests …
But what she didn’t bank on was her first paying customer being someone like Adam Hunter. Rugged, powerfully built and with a deep sadness in his eyes, Adam is a man that Faith is immediately drawn to – but unfortunately he also has an intense hatred of all things Christmassy.

As the countdown to the big day begins, Faith can’t seem to keep away from her mysterious guest, but still finds herself with more questions than answers: just what happened to Adam Hunter? And why does he hate Christmas?

My Thoughts

This is a book crammed full of good things- Christmas in abundance, several strands to the story and some great humorous touches. You can really picture the setting and the hotel and I loved the structure of the story with each chapter being a day on the countdown to Christmas. Published by Choc Lit, it heavily features the hero's point of view which I loved and thought it really told you the story of Faith and Adam. It is a good, escapist read but there is nothing wrong with that!

Faith's family are a huge part of her life and I liked getting to know them all in the story, especially her recalcitrant niece and her affectionate parents. If I'm honest, my absolute favourites turned out to be her two unruly dogs, Nip and Tuck who I just wanted to scoop up, they were so full of life. There are some well-drawn characters, all with their own flaws and insecurities, but above all, lots of heart. It's a great Christmas read. I've read quite a few this year and I would say this is one of the most enjoyable I've found. I really got to care about what was going to happen to them all.

In short: A festive romance, brimming with life.

About the Author

I was born in Wallingford but have spent most of my life living in a
village outside Windsor. A former pharmacist, I’m now a medical writer who also loves to write romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero…
I’ve two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to bother buying a card again this year (yes, he does) so the romance in my life is all in my head. Then again, my husband’s unstinting support of my career change goes to prove that love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes can come in many disguises.
